Artist Profile

The Vinyl Depreciation Society

The Vinyl Depreciation Society is Nick Willcocks and Ben Wijay, originally from Devon, England.

Their production style straddles deep house, indie dance, nu-disco and melodic techno, with consistent undertones of psychedelia and wonk.

2021 saw releases on Diynamic, Get Physical and Days Of Being Wild, which gleaned several Beatport Top 20 spots.

Their list of fans is diverse, with their last EP receiving love from Francois Kevorkian, DJ Harvey, Carl Craig, Âme, Daniele Baldelli, Sasha, Richie Hawtin, DJ T, Solomun, Justin Robertson, Mandrake, Curses, Chloe, Audiofly, Sean Johnston (ALFOS), Guy Gerber and Maceo Plex. Their music has featured on shows by John Digweed, Burning Man, Eelke Kleijn, Justin Strauss, Soho Radio, Keinemusik Radio, Get Physical Radio, Tsugi Radio and ALFOS Transmissions.

Midway through 2020 they started the label Zantidote, an extension of their left-field satirical blog with London artist David Foldvari. During the pandemic, they dropped seven releases and have a flurry ready for early 2021, starting with a Pezzner remix on Get Physical.

Ben and Nick have performed extensively. Catching the second wave of the UK free-party scene they got heavily involved as DJs and promoters.

Ben won MUZIK Mag’s Bedlam Bedlam DJ Award back in 2004 and subsequently played the European circuit with residencies at We Love (Space Ibiza, Homelands) and Renaissance (Pacha London/Ibiza).

Around the same time, their club-night Chameleon was at the forefront of new wave eclectic dance music, hosting guests like Andrew Weatherall, The Unabombers and Crazy P. In the first two years it established itself as the south-west’s leading night and was made Mixmag’s Best Small Club.

Ben is currently based in Melbourne (Australia) and Nick in Bristol (UK),
